Sometimes you can't DEY (Do Everything Yourself) all the time and need to break down and hire a professional, crazy I know. My home was in desperate need of getting pointed and having the cornice painted since I purchased it almost 8 years ago. Being young and poor and having other things that I needed to fix first put those projects the back burner for awhile. I finally saved up enough money last year to get the work done and hired someone to do both the pointing and cornice and although I had to jump through many hurtles and a year of frustrations the work was finally completed about a week ago.
I couldn't however just get my house pointed and have the cornice painted and not do a little additional work to the front of my house to bring it up to par so I have been hard at work beautifying the front of my house.

I started with the bathtub that I use as a flower bed in front of my house, I've had it for years and the black i had painted it was peeling horribly. Rather than just paint it black again I decided it would be much better to paint it a bright color, so scraped off the old paint, masked it off and spray painted it with some rustoleom. What an improvement!
After the tub I moved onto the front door, I had to re-frame it out and put some tasteful trim around it. Here is a photo of my front door the day I bought it 8 years ago. Since then the door has been replaced, my dad built me a new transom (the window above the door), I painted on new house numbers and last week I added some trim around the door.
Pretty new trim!
Here are some photos of my house before the cornice was painted and before the pointing.
Here is what it looked like after the cornice was painted, the house was pointed and pre door trim. I must admit when I first pulled up to the house after it was done I had a mini freak out, it was such a drastic change that I wasn't sure I chose the best colors, but it has grown on me.
I couldn't go through all that work so my last project was to paint the front door, it was long overdue for a new paint job. I wanted to use both colors and do something a little unique, this was what I ended up doing.
prettiest house on the block for sure (or maybe just most ridiculous house on the block)
