I've been building and creating things as long as I can remember. I grew up in quite a DIY family, my mom always cooking everything from scratch, sewing, quilting and knitting and my dad fixing and remodeling things in our house almost constantly - it couldn't help but rub off on me and I developed quite a mixed bag of skills
I always had a big interest in what my parents or siblings did around the house and wanted to figure out how to do those things for myself. Growing up, especially after my sister and brother moved away and I became the 'only child' in the house, I helped my mom cook dinner most nights. I also helped my dad fix things in our home and even gutted and remodeled the room above our garage for myself with my dads help. Eventually I developed my own hobbies that I couldn't learn from my parents or friends and had to start researching them or simply do things by trial and error - it was a little harder back in the days when the internet wasn't a reliable source for almost anything and often led to some interesting situations.
In 2004 I bought my first house, a fixer-upper and really began my journey of DIY. Being 24 and not having all that much money will really make you want to find any situation to not have to hire someone to fix things. I've remodeled almost 75% of my house by now and I've only hired contractors probably 4 times for things I couldn't fix. I have also built some pretty unique things into the house using unconventional materials.
Over the years my friends have lovingly teased me for all the projects I do saying things like 'It's easy! anyone can do it!' and telling me I'm DEY (Do Everything Yourself). So here you go, here is my DEY blog which is going to be a documentation of my mixed bag of skills and projects. Enjoy.
